CONSERVATION OF DOLPHINS FROM ROMANIAN COASTAL WATERS BY FISHERMEN INVOLVEMENT
In 2005, starting with the accidental by-catches of dolphins, Mare Nostrum NGO started the project “Conservation of dolphins from Romanian coastal waters by involving the fishermen community and raising awareness of tourists”, with European funding. Within this project, monitoring was carried out to identify the stranded dolphins and were organized working meetings with the fishermen to stimulate their involvement in dolphin conservation actions. This project represented the promoter of important actions in the field of biodiversity conservation, such as the placement of pingers devices on fishing nets.
