ARIA 2 MAI - DURANKULAK - MARINE BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND PUBLIC AWARENESS
Focused on conservation of marine system, one of the strategic directions of Mare Nostrum NGO, the project “2 Mai – Durankulak – Conservation of marine biodiversity and public awareness” aimed at implementing international provisions for the protection of marine reserves, targeting the species Hyppocampus ramulosus, whose population was significantly reduced due to the increased degree of eutrophication of the marine ecosystem, after 1970.

The project was implemented to support the biodiversity conservation strategy of the Strategic Action Plan for the Black Sea Rehabilitation and Protection, as well as the commitments made by Romania in biodiversity conventions and agreements. The main objectives of the project were to promote the sustainable development and exploitation of marine resources by promoting international cooperation at different levels, improving the protection of ecosystems, conserving biodiversity, as well as facilitating effective conservation activities in cooperation. The project has brought multiple benefits to local communities by attracting donors and sponsors.
