Biodiversity in the Black Sea is seriously threatened by human activities such as overfishing, pollution, invasive species, and habitat destruction, requiring urgent and coordinated action across the region.
BIOBLACK – Raising Awareness for the Black Sea People to Recognize and Protect Black Sea Biodiversity, coordinated by Karadeniz Technical University (Turkey), aims to raise awareness about the biodiversity of the Black Sea and the need to protect it. Through innovative methods and community engagement, the initiative supports education for sustainable development.
The project includes the development of an interactive educational platform featuring over 90 aquatic species in 3D format, the creation of the mobile app BLACKPYRAMID for species identification and mapping, as well as workshops and awareness-raising activities in Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
BIOBLACK – Raising Awareness for the Black Sea People to Recognize and Protect Black Sea Biodiversity is funded by the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, co-financed by the European Union, with a total budget of €425,166.
