In 2024, our efforts to protect the Danube Delta took the shape of a new project: GENERATION DELTA.
We aim to foster a generation of young people who are active, nature-loving, and engaged in the communities they belong to.
After three editions of VADUrabil, we wanted to go beyond the Vadu area and reach the heart of the Delta. And we succeeded, thanks to the wonderful people of Jurilovca, Sălcioara, and Sfântu Gheorghe, who joined their “neighbors” from Vadu and Corbu.
In 2025, Generation Delta 2.0 marks the natural evolution of our initiative—a stage of maturity and expanded impact in Danube Delta communities. This new version focuses on strengthening the already established volunteer clubs, developing a coherent non-formal education program co-created with youth, and expanding efforts to mobilize local communities and tourists.
Through Generation Delta 2.0, we aim to empower young people as active agents of change, support teachers and schools in their modernization efforts, and encourage authorities and citizens to work more closely together to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
It is a collective effort, emphasizing long-term legacy: a culture of civic responsibility and respect for the natural heritage of the Delta.
The Danube Delta is a favorite destination for those who love spectacular nature and tranquility. Year after year, more and more tourists come here for their holidays. But few know that it is a highly important and protected area, and the increasing number of tourists, unfortunately, brings more waste and negative impacts on local plant and animal species.
Through Generation Delta, we created five local volunteer clubs, held training sessions for youth in these five communities, and they are now organizing their own volunteer activities.
We aim to lay the foundation for a legacy of active citizenship that will carry on for many years to come.
We also run activities for tourists on Vadu beach, and we have strong collaborations with both authorities and local citizens. It’s not easy, but people are open-minded, eager to make a positive change, and with small steps, we believe they will all be able to say that the Danube Delta is a beautiful and thriving place!
Schools and teachers are also a vital part of this project.
They support students in volunteer activities and actively contribute to the development of their schools. They take part in our training sessions, strive to attract more funding, and aim to bring their schools up to high standards. We support them in all these efforts.
Anyone interested can support the sustainable development of the Danube Delta by getting involved, finding solutions to local challenges, sharing our message with more people, and protecting the natural wealth that already exists.
The Generation Delta project is financially supported by Black Sea Oil&Gas.
